Answer: I use geometric shapes to obscure and create spatial tension. Elements of typical three dimensional space are left out or altered to engage the viewer. Using color and placement, the relationship between objects lead to structural movement within the painting and provides discord that the viewer seeks to resolve. These deconstructed elements are built within a system that is meant to be resolved within the painting. They could be seen as forms in the midst of construction. Within my current series I explore diptychs using bold color that emphasizes the tension between two colors. One set of paintings approaches the center-line while the other crosses over the divide. This helps potential movement of the forms within each painting. Some of the paintings that do not cross the line tend to visually hinge like a traditional diptych due to the mirrored nature of the work. These are elements that I continue to work on as the series progresses.
