Answer: Blue Star Recyclers is an e-Steward certified, nonprofit social enterprise based in Denver, Colorado. Blue Star's mission is to recycle electronics in creating local jobs for people with disabilities. To date it has produced: - 50 jobs for people with disabilities, - 34 million lbs. of electronics ethically recycled, and - over $30 million in Social Return on Investment (taxpayer savings and other positive economic impact). Blue Star's asset-based employment model has produced industry-leading occupational statistics and is replicated by other recyclers in the US and abroad. The BlueStar story? Established in 2009. Bill Morris was working at a day job. He noticed there were a few individuals in the backroom dismantling electronics. With his curiosity piqued, Bill started probing and realized that 4 out 5 of the workers were on the autism spectrum. He discovered they were having fun, loving what they were doing, and were really good at taking these pieces apart. At this point he knew nothing about recycling; but this lit a desire to investigate further. Realizing that this is a marketable skill and could lead to a meaningful career, he embarked on the development of Blue Star as a company offering multiple great services for the community. Products and services: Secure destruction of data-containing devices. We can recycle: Laptops, desktops, tablets, hard drives, keyboards, and mice. Copiers, printers, and fax machines.
