Answer: Our mission is to protect and empower immigrant survivors of crime and persecution. GAIN provides quality pro bono legal representation to asylum seekers and immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual abuse, and other crimes through direct representation, pro bono volunteers and confidential social service referrals. We were founded in 2005 as the Atlanta Bar Asylum Project with the intent to train volunteer attorneys and provide a screening, mentoring and referral mechanism for unrepresented asylum cases. In 2009, GAIN increased its scope of representation, adding a second project called the Victims of Violence Program. This program was created not only to provide legal representation to immigrant survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, but also to fill a distinct void in legal representation for crime survivors in Georgia. The same successful asylum model of training volunteers and referring screened cases is utilized in our VOV program. Each year, we see an increase in the demand for our services and help hundreds of clients and their families leave life-threatening situations. GAINs clients include women, men and children from over 70 countries across the globe. We guide our clients through the complex U.S. immigration legal system as they rebuild their lives after trauma.
