Answer: Founded in 1996 by Aaron Dobrinsky and Joe Korb, GoAmerica was truly a pioneer in the wireless Internet services industry. The companyas flagship service was a breakthrough web browsing application called Go.Web. The award winning Go.Web application was designed to optimize web browsing on BlackBerry and Palm OS devices and laptops; all of which relied on narrowband wireless data networks. GoAmerica assembled an impressive partner roster for its Go.Web services which included Dell, IBM, Research in Motion, Microsoft, Rogers Cantel, Hewlett Packard, Compaq, and Earthlink among others. In April 2000, GoAmerica acquired a wireless data services company called Wynd Communications which had been designing its services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. In 2003 GoAmerica shifted its strategy to serving the deaf community entirely and began to introduce new Internet-based text and video relay services and five years later acquired a business unit from Verizon and merged with HandsOn Video Relay, a California based provider of broadband video relay services for the deaf. The resulting company today operates as Purple Communications, Inc. Purple is a market leader and continues to serve people who are deaf or hard of hearing with the same innovation and creative spirit by which the company was founded.
