Answer: Sandhill Center is an innovative, nationally-recognized residential program for children between the ages of 8 and 13 who are experiencing significant difficulties in functioning at home, in school, or in the community. Most of our residents can't adequately regulate their emotional or mental states because of early attachment disruptions or barriers, and therefore present with serious emotional and behavioral challenges. Our goal as treatment providers for children with attachment issues is to create an environment in which care and nurture are hard to resist. Our treatment model encourages the development of close personal relationships, while confronting behaviors that interfere with that closeness. We look to recent brain research to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies. We look to the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, along with attachment-based, emotion-focused therapy approaches, to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies.
