Answer: The Stony Brook Solar Racing Team is a student run technical organization whose main objective is to design, build and race a solar-powered electric boat in the annual IEEE-PELS Solar Splash Competition. Students on the team design and fabricate motor controllers, drivetrain, solar panels, control system, and various other mechanical/ electrical devices. Our members meet every week throughout the academic year to design, fabricate, and test our boat. We create an environment where students can improve their engineering skills by participating in the design process of the boat. Team members gain valuable management skills and have several opportunities to apply their technical knowledge.
